ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL LAUNCHES ELECTRONIC MONITORING SYSTEM IN INTENSIVE CARE CENTER

St.Mary's Hospital went live with its new eCare system this month, which is anelectronic monitoring technology in the hospital?s Intensive Care Center(ICC). TELE-ICU PROGRAM EXPANDS, CONNECTING MORE MARYLAND ICU PATIENTS TO REMOTE CRITICAL CARE STAFF
Second Maryland eCare Hospital goes “live” and Seventh Hospital Joins

WASHINGTON DC – Today, Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland will connect patients and staff in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a team of critical care physicians and nurses almost 100 miles away enhancing patient care. As a member of Maryland eCare, Peninsula Regional becomes the second Maryland hospital to adopt this innovative tele-ICU. MARYLAND ICU PATIENTS CONNECTED TO REMOTE CRITICAL CARE STAFF, IMPROVING QUALITY AND SAFETY
The First Maryland eCare Hospital goes "live"

WASHINGTON DC – Starting Monday, May 18, Maryland intensive care patients will be connected by voice, video and data lines to specialized physicians and nurses at a tertiary care referral center 130 miles away. A year after announcing six, independent Maryland hospitals, with a $3 million grant from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, were joining together to provide state-of-the-art critical care to their patients, the first hospital, Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, Md., is fully online with the sophisticated care system.

"We are thrilled to bring rural Maryland patients this enhanced level of care," said Dr. Thomas Lawrence, Board Chair of Maryland eCare and Chief Medical Officer for Peninsula Regional Medical Center, an eCare member. RURAL MARYLAND HOSPITALS FORM UNPRECEDENTED
COLLABORATIVE TO IMPROVE PATIENT CARE

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Innovative eICU® Program Unites Hospitals to Reduce Critical Care Physician Shortage, Improve Care with VISICU Technology

WASHINGTON DC – Today, six hospitals serving patients in rural Maryland announced plans to improve the quality of patient care by implementing the VISICU eICU® Program in each of their intensive care units. Made possible by a $3 million grant from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), the eICU® Program marries medicine and technology to bring critical care physicians, also known as intensivists, to areas facing a shortage in this specialty.

“This technology means that patients in under-served communities will still be able to access intensive care services in their local hospitals,” said Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD, District 5), Majority Leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives. “I welcome the contributions that Maryland eCare will make in the communities of the 5th District and throughout the state of Maryland and laud this new collaborative for taking this innovative approach to patient care”  Read more (PDF)
